Chapter Five · The Maturity Gap

The race is real.
Nobody has won it.

Eighty-eight percent of organizations now use AI in at least one business function. Exactly one percent describe themselves as mature. The window is open. It will not stay open.

McKinsey's 2025 State of AI survey — 1,993 executives, 105 countries — finds that fewer than ten percent of organizations have scaled AI agents in any single business function. The gap between adoption and maturity is the opportunity.
